Honestly, when I started reading this book, I thought it was going to be a rather basic opposites attract plot. Sam and Douglas had been dating, then they had a very nasty falling out and started hating each other. To find a young woman, who seems to be in trouble with a cult, they have to work together, overcoming their mutual hatred, and possibly reviving the romantic sparks they thought were long dead. Not exactly your typical romance with thriller elements, but not too far out of the ordinary.However, I was proven wrong as the story progressed. Rather than focusing almost purely on the romance, the mystery and thriller aspects form a major part of the story, working in tandem with the romance. That combination when combined with the two characters makes a fantastic read, that occasionally had me on the edge of my seat. It was not what I was expecting.
There were enough twists and turns to keep my mind busy trying to figure out what was going to happen next, and the hot romance was entertaining.
Five stars with no complaints.

Have been waiting for Nancy Tesler's latest since finishing all her Carrie Carlin Mysterieis (twice) and it was well worth the wait. "Ablaze" has all the elements of a great mystery, plus the romance. Within pages the reader is wrapped up in the lives of the main characters as well as the young girl they are trying to rescue. After two late nights of reading - telling myself "just one more chapter" before turning off the light - I could not go to bed without finishing. And then when I finished, I wished there was more. To me that is the hallmark of a great story. Kuddos! Ms. Tesler. Back to waiting for you next book!
I liked the
story concept, but felt the love story angle was too detailed......Too much sensationalism! The cover depicted sex more than the story line, in my opinion...Too bad, as I was interested in the issues with cults and the efforts to protect our young vulnerable children!
Nancy Tesler is a wonderful writer, and her romantic suspense novel, ABLAZE was a great pleasure to read. She seamlessly weaves the two main characters’ former love affair and troubled history into the present, and draws the reader deeper into the dark and terrifying world of cults, raising the stakes and ramping up the tension to a conclusion that left me highly satisfied. Tight writing, well-crafted plotting and pacing, savvy dialogue, plenty of twists and her command of the genre kept me reading nonstop. I recommend ABLAZE!
I have liked several of this author's books but this one I couldn't keep reading. It was absolutely boring.
Although this is the first of Nancy Tesler's novels I read, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Ablaze'.
A well-written, well balanced and intriguing novel which was hard to put down as the plot thickened and as the pace increased.
This book was a good mystery with all the right ingredients. Nancy effectively incorporated romance with drama, and suspense into a great storyline. She does a great job of developing realistic characters which helps the story flow and makes it easy to follow. I was intrigued immediately when I began reading this book to the point of not being able to put it down.
After reading 'Ablaze', I have added Tesler to my list of authors to follow and read more of her writings. With that said, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading romantic, mysterious thrillers will likely enjoy reading 'Ablaze'.
Ablaze is a well written novel that explores human relationships and how people can become interconnected both positively and negatively. Tesler does a great job of making her readers care about the complexities of everyday people. She shows through her characters, the flaws of good people and the compassion between those individuals who have lost so much that it has affected the ways they can trust, and have intimacy with each other. She shows how vulnerable and desperate some people can get by a sense of being disconnected. She also explores the madness others can have and how having control over people can either damage or ultimately destroy them. This book is rich with both the hidden and exposed aspects of society and those who try to navigate it. Very engaging . . . 5 stars!
